a comic about existential terror and my shoulders

Two great tastes that taste great together! Or...not.

(Two great tastes that taste great together! Or...not.)

a comic about my shoulders going up, maybe

I try to post about things that are not always about the news, because otherwise it's a challenge to have any part of my day NOT thinking about the news. There are issues affecting me, my family, my loved ones, and I'm sure most of you. I don't currently have any answers except to keep loving your community and working together. And making art.

Relatedly in What I'm Reading news! I just finished Charlie Jane Anders' wonderful writing book, Never Say You Can't Survive, which is partly about making art in tough times and also just about writing, period. I screenshotted so many useful tips and ideas from it I had to make a whole folder on my phone just so I easily find them later.

I also read two short stories this week that I really liked – “The Matador and the Labyrinth” by C.C. Finlay, at Diabolical Plots, and "Katya Vasilievna and the Second Drowning of Baba Rechka" by Christine Hanolsy, at Beneath Ceaseless Skies. Both these stories use and interrogate myths in different ways (and you can probably guess which myths/folklore from their titles!) Both lovely stories, both worth a read.

Otherwise the best thing is that spring is inching back in Portland! There are daffodils and plum blossoms and buds on the magnolia. And when I complimented a neighbor's garden this morning she handed me two strawberry starts. I'm grateful to have wonderful people in my community, both near and far.
