paintings of snapdragons and coastal trees!
I have to hang all these paintings on picture wire and I am NOT GOOD with power tools.

In which I have been working on PAINTINGS!

I am SO EXCITED to say that I had my first pieces accepted to a juried art show!!! The 8x8 piece above is called That Bracing Sea Air and will be one of my pieces on display June 20-22 inside the Lakewood Theater building at the Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts.
This is a big festival with multiple components. For one, there will be big fancy artists set up in booths in the park across the street. (I did not have enough pieces to apply for one of these spots, but maybe someday....) For two, every year they do a "small works" show inside a gallery in the Lakewood Theatre. This year's theme is "The Weather in Color," and I am pleased as punch that they selected artwork from me.
And then for three, they have a giant tent outside the theatre called the "Open Show Express" and anyone can apply for a 5x6 panel, pay their 40 bucks, and hang up to 7 pieces of artwork on it for sale. So I've been working all May on my 7 pieces of artwork.

Am I nervous? Yes! I have to hang all these paintings on picture wire and I am NOT GOOD with power tools! But otherwise I expect it'll be fun, particularly because if you are not a booth artist they specifically say "please DON'T go hover around your artwork all weekend." IE, please don't scare people away who just want to see the pretty paintings in peace and quiet without someone raving about how much they love Quinacridone Magenta.
I will definitely be at the festival for the reception at 5pm on Friday June 20, as well as other times to check out all the other artists' work. Come by and check it out if you're local! (And please say hi if you see me!!)
I'll show you another painting next week, but for now I must sign off and figure out how this picture wire works. Wish me luck! :D
